Deflector Protects Add-On Mower
“I put together a side-mount mower for trimming grass and weeds under my evergreens. We have about 60 of them in our yard so it’s a big job mowing around them,” says Dave Meiners, Edgerton, Minn.
“I picked up a 20-in. mower at a garage sale for $50 and picked up some metal strapping and bolts to make the drawbar and deflector that goes up over the engine.
“It took longer to disable the emergency kill mechanism from the handle than it did to do everything else. Two double-nutted studs hold the drawbar to the front of the Dixon rider. I use self-locking nuts to fasten the link between the drawbar and mower, leaving them loose to allow movement. The pipe welded on front keeps the side mower from digging into the ground.
“The deflector lets the mower go all the way under the lower boughs of the trees without catching. Works great.”
