X-Blade Adapter Designed To Double Mower Capacity
Ballard Inc. has come up with a simple blade bracket for mowers that’s designed to double the blade and cutting capacity. “These adapter kits were designed to turn your ordinary side discharge mower into an extreme grass pulverizing machine,” says Kory Ballard.
The bracket is placed between the blades and holds them in an X pattern. Existing blade hardware is used to hold the X-Blade bracket in place.
Vacuum and grass packing is improved with the X-Blade for bagging, and side discharge leaves smaller clippings resulting in less clumping of grass.
Using a high-height blade to cut the grass on the bottom of the bracket with a mulching blade above, pulverizes the cut grass as it cycles through the deck reducing grass clipping size. Other blade combinations can be used to achieve the desired cut.
The X-Blade adapters come in sets for 2 or 3-blade mowers and fit blades that are 2 1/2 or 3 in. wide with a 5/8 or 15/16-in. center hole and are 3/16 in. thick. They fit deck sizes from 32 to 61 in.
Mower blades used with the X-Blade must be flat. The X-Blade is not recommended for smaller push mowers, or blades longer than 21 in. It’s made for use on zero turn mowers, standers, and commercial walk-behinds that have the correct width and center hole blades. Ballard also recommends lowering the rpm’s when engaging or disengaging the mower deck.
X-Blade keeps the mower’s blade spindles in balance, says Ballard. It will not allow blade slippage, which can cause a blade to over torque and become difficult to remove.
X-Blade kits are priced starting at $ 21.99 for a 2-blade mower kit plus $10 shipping and handling.
