He uses his gleaner combine to mow hay COMBINES Miscellaneous 12-5-1 "Combines sit around unused 90% of the time. I decided to find another use for mine," says Jeff Frey, Willow Street, Penn., who mounted two 6-ft., 7-in. wide Kuhn disc-type mower conditioners on the front of his 1984 Gleaner N6 combine.
Frey built a quick-attach frame that supports both of the 1988 model Kuhn mowers. Because the combine is built to support the weight of headers, he says it can easily handle the two heavy mowers. "It makes a great self-propelled mower-conditioner. The mowers cut a 13-ft. swath and lay the hay between the drive wheels. I can remove the mowers and be harvesting grain in less than an hour."
