New Type Of Poly Shade Cloth
A new type of shade cloth made in South Africa from high density, UV-stabilized, knitted polyethylene is now on the market in North America.
"Alnet" shade cloth can be used to pro-vide shade for livestock, protect fruit and vegetable crops from hail, or serve as a windbreak. It's available in green or black and in shade densities ranging from 30% to 85%. The product comes in rolls that are 160 ft. long by 9 1/2 ft. wide. A row of rein-forced eyelets along each side of the fabric allows you to lace sections together.
"It's more expensive than other shade cloths but it'll last a lot longer because it's stronger and won't rot or absorb moisture," says Michael Henn, export manager. "The knited construction method makes it stronger than woven material and much more run-resistant. A tear in weaved material can extend in four directions whereas a tear in our knited material can continue in only one direction so there's less chance for break-age. It won't shrink or stretch under temperature extremes."
Sells for $2 per square yard. Henn says he's looking for manufacturer representatives. Contact: FARM SHOW Followup, Alnet, H.K. Webber, P.O. Box 697, Lakeville, Minn. 55044 (ph 612 891-3048).
