Printing Press Wood Wiper
"It's the most advanced design yet for a weed wiper," says Jim Gordon, about his new "printing press" roller-type weed wiper that's unique because it uses a smooth plastic-coated roller to apply chemicals like Roundup to tall-growing, above-the-crop weeds.
Chemical is applied to the smooth 12- in. dia. roller by a smaller dia. carpet-covered roller that rides just above it and acts like the inking roller on a printing press.
"We use a special thickening agent in the chemical that makes it thicker and easier to apply. It doesn't drip, there's no drift and it sticks to the foliage better," he notes.
Because the roller is smooth, chemical comes off it more easily when it comes in contact with leaves, coating them like an ink roller coats paper.
