Environment: New Home Comfort Center
"It's like taking a vacation any day of the year," says Herbert Kohler, Jr., president of the Kohler Co., Kohler, Wis., and creator of "Environment", a new home comfort center you'll be seeing at major fairs and shows this year.
Called a "new dimension in living", the walk-in enclosure (7 ft. long and 3 ft. wide) lets you dial the environment you want. A battery of heating and generating equipment produces the equivalent of sun, rain, steam and wind to create whatever environment you desire.
You simply dial the exterior control panel to select the elements of nature you want to enjoy - Baja sun, tropic rain, jungle steam, spring showers or Chinook winds. You may select one or all - or any combination and up to 29 minutes for each.
The working mechanism includes four heat lamps, four sun lamps, six spray heads, a steam generator and two warm air circulating systems with an output capacity of 300 CFM.
Optional featuress for the "Environment" include a stereo AM/FM radio and 8 track tape player, and an air-filled cushion pillow.
"In today's fast-changing world, there is need for solitude - the tranquility and regeneration only nature provides," explains Kohler. "The Environment addresses that need. By harmonizing nature's unique elements, an environment is created unlike any before."
Sound expensive? It is - right at $10,000 for the basic unit. A lower price unit is reportedly slated for introduction later this year.
