Want To Sleep Better? Try Wool!
You’ll get a better night’s sleep when you sleep on wool mattresses, toppers, pillows and other bedding from Shepherd’s Dream. Owner Hank Kearns has the research to back up his claims and the wool bedding that proves it.
“The great thing about wool is that it is temperature regulating,” says Kearns. “It keeps you comfortable at a good sleeping temperature about 95 percent of the year. It is also moisture wicking and antimicrobial. Dust mites hate it.”
Kearns explains that people sensitive to synthetic fiber tend to sleep either too hot or too cold, but wool is the perfect material.
Synthetic fiber sensitivities are only one reason people like wool. “There is a much larger demand than we originally thought for bedding made entirely from natural fiber without chemical additives and fire retardants,” says Kearns. “Our customer base is all ages, from people starting a family all the way through retirement. Wool bedding works for anyone health conscious and looking for a customizable bed.”
While a 100 percent wool-batting mattress can be very firm, Shepherd’s Dream also sells them with a natural latex base for added spring. Adding a topper with its less dense wool layer adds even more comfort, suggests Kearns.
“We can combine less dense layers to customize the bedding,” he says.
Kearns cites University of Melbourne, Australia, research that proves people get a more restful sleep with wool in the bedding. “They found the heart rate is lower, and people toss and turn less on wool,” he says. “It’s great at relieving pressure points, and people who suffer from fibromyalgia tell us wool is miracle bedding.”
Once wool has been cleaned and carded into batts, Shepherd’s Dream turns it into bedding. A 5-in. thick, all wool mattress with 10 layers of wool batting ranges in price from $1,495 to $2,795, depending on size. Other products include pillows, mattress toppers, comforters, blankets and more. They even offer wool-filled pet beds.
