“Best Barrel Boot Scraper Ever”
Cleaning muddy boots isn’t a problem any more for Wayne Bryan, Conesus, N.Y. He made a boot scraper using the top of a 55-gal. plastic barrel.
He used a cordless circular saw equipped with a 4-in. blade to cut off the top 3 in. of the barrel, then made a series of cuts about 3/8 in. apart around the rim and bung holes. He also made a series of long parallel cuts about 1 1/2 in. apart in the lid and turned them into “louvers”. He used a propane torch to heat the ends of the cuts, then used a vise grip to bend them and hold them in place until they hardened. He also cut a 2-in. wide strip out of a truck mud flap and used a couple of carriage bolts to fasten it onto the lid, bristle side up.
