Stromberg Carburetors Back On The Market
✖ |
You can rebuild a famous Stromberg carburetor from the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s, or you can buy the old carburetor new. Stromberg carburetors, specifically the famous Stromberg 97’s, are the go-to unit for hot rodders and anyone rebuilding or restoring older Ford engines. For decades getting the long discontinued carburetors has involved searching flea markets and swap meets and buying rebuild kits.
Today, components as well as complete carburetors themselves, are available from Stromberg Carburetor, Ltd. Founders Ed Wimble and Clive Prew, Suffolk, England, restarted the company. They discovered no one owned the name and that the patents had expired, but the original engineering drawings, dimensions, specifications and casting details were all available.
The new company started out making high quality Stromberg 97 replacement parts, gradually expanding the line. Eventually they introduced a new and improved Stromberg 97. Priced at $449, it is built to the original blueprint specifications. A chrome version is priced at $599.
Using modern materials and manufacturing processes, the new carburetors are likely better than the originals. Parts that once were zinc or cadmium-plated are now stainless steel. Parts that once were gravity cast are now pressure die cast for greater accuracy. Cellulose/nitrile gaskets are high quality and longer lasting.
Nearly as important as the parts and carburetors is the support provided by the company. The how-to-install section of the website includes installation guides available for download before you buy.
The jetting and other FAQ’s section answers common and not so common questions about the carburetors and how they work.
Other sections include multiple carb set-up and the Stromberg legacy. The community section includes signup for the company newsletter as well as blogs and company news, clothing and more. The dealer network section lists dealers throughout the world.
