Plow Covers Improve Scouring Lighten Draft
New plastic plow covers may be the answer if you've had problems with clay or wet soil sticking on the moldboards.
Manufactured by Poly Tech, Monticello, Ga., the 1/4 in. thick plow covers are made of a special type of plastic and formed to fit the plow moldboard to help soil roll off the moldboard better.
Company spokesman, Jerry Cook, explains that plastic offers less resistance than steel and thus provides less draft and less sticking in wet soil, sticky clay and even dry soil.
The covers fit directly over the moldboards, bolting to the existing holes. Cook notes that, instead of replacing worn moldboards, you can simply cover them with plastic covers. He adds that the plastic wears just as well as steel.
Covers are available for 14, 16 and 18 in. moldboards. A 16 in. cover sells for $54.45.
