"To steal it, you'd have to rip the furniture apart. Most thieves want to come and go quietly and won't do that," says a company spokesman.
The portable safe goes anywhererequires no installation - and the key feature is a patented, springloaded double lid mechanism. Just slip it into the top drawer of a desk or dresser, and let both the inner and outer lids spring open. Then, close the inner lid, which locks the outer lid in an open position - it won't pass the drawerbead but will openfar enough to let you reach the combination. When unlocked, the inner lid springs open, releasing the outer lid.
The Porta-Vault - 9 by 6 by 2 in. in size-is made of steel and weighs 33/4 lbs.
