Hand-Held Probe Makes Hay Testing Easy
If you put up hay û or regularly buy a lot of it û you should have a hay probe, says the manufacturer of the Colorado Hay Probe.
It's made from aluminum alloy with a stainless steel tip that can be resharpened. It can cut a 5/8-in. dia. core up to 18 in. long. The collection chamber holds 10 to 15 samples.
The basic sampler sells for $115. Several accessories are available, including an optional T-Handle for $30.00. Shipping and handling are additional. Once 10 to 15 samples are in the chamber, the samples are placed in an air-tight bag and sent off to a lab for analysis. Company president Bill Lehr says, "Core sampling has become more prominent because a better premium is provided when the producer can provide proof of quality."
