Rotary Chisel Plow
This new rotary chisel plow uses 50% less fuel and works twice as fast as conventional deep tillage rigs, according to Luigi Cecchio, Italian manufacturer of the new machine.
The 9-ft. wide chisel is fitted with curved teeth that work to a depth of 3 ft., turning in a forward motion so that they actually provide forward impetus for the pulling tractor. Working depth is variable from 12 to 36 in. and rotation of the big chisel shaft ranges from 5 to 70 rpm's. It'll work it's way through 2¢ acres of compacted ground in an hour, which Cecchio says is half the time required to break up hardpan with a conventional chisel. The revolutionary new chisel also needs less power due to the motion of the rotating chisels. Requires just a 120 hp. pulling tractor.
A pair of heavy-duty hydraulic motors on either side of the machine provide power for rotation of the shanks. The machine carries it's own engine and hydaulic pump to provide the needed capacity. Larger 12 and 15-ft. wide machines are also available.
