Remote Control Augerless Forage Mixer
"Our new augerless forage mixer loads and unloads from the same hopper so you can control it remotely," says John Steiner, Steiner Ag Products, Smithville, Ohio.
The 141 cu. ft. "Rota-Blend" mixer is designed to continuously mix forages and grains. During filling the drum rotates clock-wise while the hopper remains stationary in the loading position. Flipping a remote-control switch causes both the drum and the hopper to rotate counterclockwise half a turn. The hopper then hits a "stop" mounted on the mixer frame and unloads feed into an auger.
"On other mixers you have to pull a lever on the mixer itself to unload it, but on ours all you have to do is hit a button," says Steiner. "In many applications it's impractical to walk over to the mixer, such as when it's mounted up in the barn or in the feedlot above a feed bunk. The absence of an auger gives this mixer 40% more feed capacity than a mixer of comparable size. Paddles inside the drum discharge feed out of the hopper, resulting in 100% cleanout of feed because there's no place for feed to catch. There's less wear because there are few moving parts and because feed tumbles inside the drum instead of being mixed by an auger. The entire mixer is built from sturdy 3/16-in. steel plate. A Teflon seal makes it leakproof."
Four models are available, ranging in capacity from 78 to 351 cu. ft. and selling for $4,895 to $8,895. Price includes motor and switch.
