Limited Edition Hog Miniatures
One of the hottest sellers at farm shows around the country are hog "miniatures" made out of pewter by an Illinois hog breeding company.
Hog Receipts of LeRoy, Ill., makes pendants, earrings, tie tacs, lapel pins, and other jewelry as well belt buckles, key chains and Christmas tree ornaments. All depict pigs of one kind or another.
In addition, the company has issued three limited edition pewter miniatures measuring about 5 by 5 by 2 in., mounted on a walnut base. One depicts a young girl with a new-born litter, another shows a farmer with a group of older pigs, and the third is a detailed portrayal of a healthy young boar.
Virginia Wilson, who coordinates sales for the company, says thousands of the miniatures have already been sold. "They're selling well because they're unique and made from high-quality pewter which allows for reproduction of intricate detail with total accuracy. We also sell them at a very competitive price," she says.
Prices for the limited edition miniatures range from $39 to $50. Pewter jewelry and other miscellaneous items range as low as $3.00.
