Tarnish Magnet Cleans Silver On Contact
"Replaces a whole shelf of dangerous chemicals and messy paste cleaners and is 100% safe," says the manufacturer of the Tarnish Magnet, an automatic tarnish remover that doesn't require any scrubbing or rubbing.
"It really works," says FARM SHOW Office Manager Joan Johnson who tested the new product. "I cleaned a number of badly tarnished pieces of silver with it," says Joan, "and found that although there was a little hand work left after treating them with the magnet, it removed almost all the tarnish in less than a minute."
According to the company, here's how the magnet works:
You simply dissolve 1/4 cup of rock salt in one quart of hot tap water in a plastic bowl or pan. Set the magnet in the bottom of the pan and place the tarnished items on top of it. Some portion of the tarnished silver item must touch the magnet. Instantly, the tarnish slips off the items, whether they're large, small or medium-sized. Then, you simply rinse in hot water and wipe them dry.
The specially treated magnet is designed to work also on gold, diamonds and other jewelry or household items. It never wears out and is said to leave an invisible protective coating that retards tarnish, keeping items tarnish-free longer.
The magnet sells for $12.95.
