New Go Anywhere Hydraulic Mower
"I got tired of knocking sections out of my sickle mower every time I tried to mow along fencelines," says Ed Truax, who solved his mowing problems by designing a new versatile hydraulically-controlled rotary mower that will cut under anything 5 in. off the ground, and reach up to 8 ft. in the air.
The 3-ft. dia. trimming head rides a 6-ft. long control arm. Three cylinders mounted on the arm, controlled by a 4-way directional control valve on the tractor, lift, tilt and extend the trimming head. A hydraulic motor powers the blades. The head tilts from 15? below the horizontal, for reaching into ditches, to 90? vertically.
"It gives you perfect control for mowing against fences and along railings," explains Truax. "With conventional mowing equipment, it's almost impossible to mow certain areas of your farm. This machine will keep your whole farm looking like your front yard."
The trimmer operates off any tractor with an 8 gal. hydraulic capacity and mounts on most tractors in about 10 min. according to Truax. Sells for about $1,500. Truax is building units on order. Inquiries from manufacturers welcome.
