Cribcuddle Soothes Babies to Sleep
"Cribcuddle is one of the most innovative developments I've seen in infant care," says Patricia Wilbarger, coordinator of developmental services at Ventura County California Hospital Intensive Care Nursery, where the new Cribcuddle ù a "hammock" for babies that pulsates with a sound similar to a mother's heartbeat ù is being used.
Manufactured by Infacare, Laguna Hills, Cal., Cribcuddle fastens to any normal sized crib with 6 velour safety straps that attach to the side rails of the crib.
Roy Taylor, marketing director for Infacare says, "Cribcuddle helps babies a number of ways. First, the heartbeat sound and pulsations the baby hears and feels makes it more content. Clinical tests in intensivecare nurseries reveal that new babies that listen to the sound of a normal heartbeat cry less than babies that listen to lullabies.
The heartbeat sound and feeling is produced by a 9 volt battery inside the plastic heart attached to the Crib-cuddle. The beat resonates through the stretch terry fabric to surround the baby with the rythmic sound and pulsating feeling.
Cribcuddle adjusts to allow babies to lie in 3 different positions. It can be machine washed and dried, sells for $39.95, plus $2.50 for postage and handling.
