Sunshades For Tractor Cabs
"We think it's the best new comfort feature for tractor cabs since air conditioning," says Dan Kinneson, Kimball, Neb., of his company's new Sun Shield. "Even if your tractor has air conditioning, the Sun Shield will allow you to run it at a lower setting. Our tests show the shields will keep the cab 20 to 30% cooler during hot summer months, providing shade-tree comfort without reducing visibility. The louvers are angled so as to keep the sun out, yet don't obstruct the driver's view."
Design and mounting of the Sun Shield makes it virtually noise proof when mounted on the cab's windows, explains Kinneson. "We experimented with plastic and other type louvers but they vibrated too much and caused noise problems. We solved the noise problem by using steel louvers, all-welded construction and rubber mounting grommets."
Individual window shields are hinged at the top and swing out for easy washing of the cab windows. The Sun Shields are available as a complete set for the two side windows and the rear window ($397), or you can buy a set for the rear window only ($145).
Currently available for Deere tractors with Sound Gard body, most IH 88 and 86 series tractors, and late model Case and Versatile tractors. Shields to fit other makes of tractors will be available soon, says Kinneson.
