This 4010 Belonged To Elvis
We covered 24 farm shows in the U.S., Canada and Europe looking for new products and ideas for the magazine.
On a recent trip to a show in Memphis, we went to Graceland, the former home of Elvis Presley. I was surprised to see a John Deere 4010 on display at the museum.
My wife and daughters are big fans of Elvis and wanted to see Graceland decorated for the holidays. It was worth the trip. I was amazed by the overall size and scope of the items and displays they had. Since I recently became a pilot, I especially enjoyed seeing his two airplanes.
Elvis got his 4010 in 1967 when he purchased the Circle G Ranch in Walls, Miss. After selling the ranch, the 4010 was moved to Graceland and was used until 2008 to maintain the property. There are photos of Elvis driving the tractor.
In 2009, the tractor was restored by students at Northwest Mississippi Community College. Students put in nearly 400 man-hours restoring the 4010. The restoration was done without the students knowing where the tractor came from or where it was going. They completed the job in just one month and gave the tractor the nickname “Stella”.
Elvis’ 4010 has a 46A loader, and Ertl toys commissioned a Prestige Edition 1/16 model which we found on eBay for about $150.
The Graceland auto museum has many of Elvis cars and motorcycles, but just one tractor.
