Simple Alert Says “You’ve Got Mail”
I wish I could say I thought of this mailbox alert idea but I have to credit my youngest sister, Marilyn Schafer, for coming up with this simple solution to a common problem.
She was concerned about our 89-year-old mother walking needlessly to the mailbox - especially in winter when it gets snowy and icy in Michigan. So, Marilyn tied a piece of surveyor’s tape to the handle on the mailbox. The end gets tucked inside when she closes the lid. Anytime the lid is opened, the tape falls out, and our mom can easily see it flapping in the wind from her house.
Marilyn made sure to talk to the mail carrier to explain what the tape was for.
