He Built An On-Farm Fun Park
Loren Myran started his on-farm amusement park for his kids and grandkids. Now he frequently entertains area school children.
“School teachers ask if they can bring kids out to the farm for the rides,” he says.
Myran’s amusement park consists of a combination of rides picked up at auction and things he has built himself or with the help of a neighbor.
“I made swings, a teeter totter, and a set of overhead bars,” says Myran. “A neighbor built a double glider based on one his grandfather built for their farm in the early 1900’s.”
Other rides, like a merry-go-round and 2 larger, motorized swings, were picked up at auction. One of the swings has 4 arms with hanging units for 2 riders each. The other has 6 arms with single rider seats.
Other items in the mini-amusement park include a playhouse and an old country school bell. Myran notes that kids always love ringing the bell.
Myran is very proud of another recent addition to the park.
“I collect old cars and trucks from the 1920’s and 1930’s and planned to make a wrecker from a 1929 truck,” recalls Myran. “I advertised for a winch, and a guy said he had one laying in a 1955 Chevy truck that was also for sale. When I saw it, I thought it looked like the tow truck in the Disney movie Cars.”
Myran bought the winch and the truck and began modifications to match his vision. He shortened the box, added a steel frame, installed the winch and is adding a rear bumper.
“It was pretty neat that the truck had a kit on it that turned it into 4-WD, so it stands a little taller,” says Myran. “When my granddaughter saw it she said, ‘Grandpa, you did everything just right.’ That feels pretty good.”
