Reaping Greater Value From Farmland
AI Industrial PAD mount phase converter facilitates farm irrigation and a more profitable property

When Dusty and his father Richard chose to lease out their 30 acres of farmland in Indiana, they wanted to get the greatest return possible. They knew that one of the best ways to maximize the value of their land would be to irrigate it. To do so, however, they’d need irrigation pumps or pivot towers that require three-phase power - an amenity that many farms like Dusty and Richard’s lack.

Paying a hefty sum to have three-phase power installed by the electric company wasn’t their top choice. They also didn’t want to be susceptible to the volatility in the cost of running a diesel generator, nor to deal with the maintenance of one. So Dusty and Richard did some research and found a potential solution in the form of a phase converter.

They turned to the American Rotary team, who helped them zero in on the right product for the specific needs of their farm: a 150hp American Rotary AI Industrial PAD Mount phase converter with an Autolink system.

How A Phase Converter Helped

Durability

With their phase converter setup installed in the middle of a field where the irrigation system is located, it needed to withstand strong winds and harsh conditions. The converter’s rodent screens prevent mice and other animals from nesting in their units. With a lifetime wash down filter, the converter is also protected from dust and other particles.

Voltage Balance

If just a small portion of a field is not watered equally, it could mean thousands of dollars in lost profit due to crop damage. However, Dusty and Richard don’t have to fear these issues, and nor do their tenants. Because their phase converter monitors voltage every 50 milliseconds, they can rest assured knowing they’re getting precise power at all times.

Automated & Wireless Controls

When Dusty and Richard initially contacted American Rotary, they explained their situation. With an irrigation system that needed to cover 30 acres, they didn’t want to travel out to the converter multiple times a day just to turn it on.

With the Autolink system for their phase converter, they can completely automate the operation. Such automation includes wireless remote starting as well as SDDO (Start Delay Delay Off) timers.

The wireless remote starter gives them the option to start their phase converter with the push of a button – and without having to actually travel out to the converter itself. When the SDDO timer kit is used, they are able to have their phase converter turn on and start running when it is triggered to cycle, making for a worry-free automated operating procedure.

Need Three-Phase Power for Your Farm?

By investing in a phase converter from American Rotary, Dusty and Richard were able to increase the revenue from their land by over 60% and the farmers were able to increase their production, making them more profitable, too.
