Millions Of Historic Aerial Photos Available Online
Vintage Aerial is making over 24 million historic aerial photographs available online. The images document the history of rural America spanning five decades and can be viewed online at VintageAerial.com.
Beginning over sixty years ago, small cottage businesses photographed farms and rural homesteads to peddle framed enlargements door-to-door. Several of these businesses had the foresight to archive their collection of original negatives, totaling into the millions of photographs.
Vintage Aerial began digitizing the film, and currently has over 24 million images covering rural areas in 41 states.
“The historic photos that Vintage Aerial has digitized and made available for viewing are a powerful evocation of the most personal memories that we share as a people – home, family, ancestry, and change,” said Fritz Byers, President and CEO.
“By sharing our archive, we encourage people to reflect on and share their memories with others, and in that way to deepen our sense of common history.”
Vintage Aerial has completed digitizing nearly 12 million aerial images so far, and they are searchable online at VintageAerial.com. Finding photos is easy – using an address or an interactive map search, almost anyone with a connection to a farm or rural home can find a photograph of great personal significance.
