Remote-Controlled Tracked Mower
You can run this remote control mower from Summit Lawn Mower Co. with a handheld transmitter from up to 300 ft. away. The combination of weight, track drive and a low center of gravity makes it safe to mow the steepest hillsides, but it also handles conventional mowing chores. Best of all, the mowers are priced way under comparable European units. With optional remote video, it can even be operated from inside.
“We are selling the TRX-60 with its 60-in. deck for $18,000, while similar European units sell for $35,000 to $65,000,” says John Wright, Summit Lawn Mower Co. “Our mower, with its Turf Saver track pattern, cuts clean without damaging the turf.”
The tracks have treads only 3/8-in. deep, but they still get good traction with their 9 by 40-in. footprints.
Unlike other commercial grade remote control mowers that tend to be rough-cut mowers, the TRX-60 is a finish mower. The anti-scalp deck offers side discharge, bagging or mulching options. The 25 hp Kawasaki commercial engine (with oil pump) is paired with a hydro-gear dual transmission and a 5-gal. fuel tank. The deck has height adjustments from 2 to 6 in. and can be equipped with optional remote hydraulic controls as well.
The transmitter has one joystick to control remote engine start/stop, while the other controls movement and direction. A toggle switch controls blade engagement, and a knob controls graduated choke on and off. Optional upgrades include remote on-board video, headlights and a snow blade attachment. The self-charging electrical system powers high torque, 6V electric motors for remote control functions.
Summit markets smaller remote control mowers; however, when designing the 1,000-lb. TRX-60, the company made significant changes. Track placement to the rear of the wide deck allows it to operate alongside obstacles such as fences.
“The TRX-60 is designed for simplicity,” says Wright. “If a problem develops with a component, it’s easy to remove and replace. In the case of the remote control actuator for the deck lift, if it fails, you can still adjust the deck manually.”
Working length of the mower is 11 ft. with the snow blade. Deck-equipped dimensions are 62 in. wide, 88 in. long and 33 in. tall.
