Weight Keeps Mailbox Closed
David Bliss came up with a simple way to keep the door on his mailbox closed, using a weight attached to a length of bike brake cable.
The cable attaches to the mailbox door and runs through a cable tube down through the mailbox to a weight made from a piece of pvc pipe.
“The weight works better than using a spring because it applies the same force on the door all the time, whereas there’s more tension on a spring when the door is open than when it’s closed,” says Bliss.
