Seed Handler Fills Planter Fast
"It lets one man fill an International 900 12-row (30-in.) planter with seed beans in about a minute," says Nevada, Iowa, farmer Bill Couser about the bucket-mounted planter filler he and his father, Dick, built about five years ago.
Made out of 3/4-in. thick plywood, the rectangular seed handler mounts with six bolts in Couser's 84-in wide Deere loader bucket. It holds 50 50-lb. bags of soy-beans. Gates at each corner of the box open with a single master lever. Two 10 in. long pieces of inner tube fitted around the doors help direct the flow of the beans. A divider in the middle of the filler ensures beans empty evenly out of both sides, filling both seed hoppers on the IH planter at the same time.
The Cousers have about $25 invested in the seed handler.
