Portable Dog Kennel Keeps Pooch Happy
Whenever he wants Mike Elder, White Plains, Md., can move his small “wiener” dog around in his back yard, while keeping it safe from predators at the same time. That’s because he installed a wooden floor in his dog kennel and mounted it on wheels. A small homemade doghouse with a flat tin roof gives the dog a dry place to sleep.
“It lets me move the dog into the sun or shade, depending on weather conditions. He hasn’t gotten wet yet and thinks he’s a king,” says Mike.
He bought a panel wire cage at Tractor Supply Co. and mounted it on wheels.
He used 2 by 4 treated lumber to build the floor and installed a 10-in. air-filled wheel at each corner, using 5/8-in. dia. metal rods for the axles.
“I spent a total of about $370. I paid $300 for the cage and $50 for the lumber used to build the floor. I bought the wheels at Harbor Freight for $5 apiece.”
