Sickle Fin Prevents Plug-Ups
Tired of having the sickle of your mower, swather or grain table plug every so often with dirt, clippings and weeds? Then you'll be interested in a North Dakota farmer's invention which, he claims, prevents sickle plug-ups.
Ralph Kerr, of Bowman, calls his invention the Sickle Fin. It's designed to be bolted or spot welded onto the ends of the sickle in place of one of the section rivets. Each time the sickle reciprocates, the "Fin" cleans out any clippings and dirt that have accumulated.
"It works like a little bulldozer to clean out debris on the sickle," explains Kerr. "This invention works much better than the end half-sections used on most sickles."
Kerr has two sizes of Sickle Fins available. You simply choose the size that fits under your sickle's hold-down clips. They're designed to fit all makes and models of mowers, swathers and combines. Kerr notes, "They fit smooth, under-serrated and over-serrated sickles and are great for hay, all grains, soybeans, flax and anything else you have to cut with a sickle."
Sickle Fins sell for $1.75 apiece. Kerr welcomes inquiries from interested dealers, distributors.
