Winterize Your WIndshield Wipers - Heated Wiper Blades
Everblades heated wiper blades have been around for more than 20 years. Recent product improvements make them even more effective, says Jim Weiler, W.N. Miller Co., owner of the Everblades brand.
"The blades now use a silicone rubber material, and we dramatically changed the profile, eliminating streaking," says Weiler. "We also put a hinge on the arm, so the blade flips like a regular wiper as it goes back and forth."
Other changes include a heavy-duty LED toggle switch instead of an illuminated rocker switch and upgraded wire that handles even colder temperatures. An option is also available that heats the wiper frame as well as the rubber squeegee. The company admits that their heated blades are more expensive than regular blades, but the cost is well worth it, they argue. The specially designed blades have a heating element inside them. Once installed, the switch-activated heater warms up, and the wiper blades melt accumulated ice and snow as they work. The blades are designed to withstand temperatures of up to 200? F. and work at temperatures as low as 60? below zero.
Everblades range in price from $100 to $140 depending on size and model. Refills for the 36 and 56-in. units run $30 to $45.
