He Made A Sweet AC Treat
Since Wes Lam is well known as the "orange tractor guy" by friends and neighbors, it wasn't out of character when he made a cake in the shape of an Allis Chalmers to celebrate his birthday last December.
Lam mixed up a couple batches of Rice Krispy bars to mold the tractor that stands on top of his birthday cake. Using a toy Allis-Chalmers 7060 for a model, he mixed up the cereal treat mix and molded the body out of one piece. He shaped wheels separately and connected them with dowels.
Lam tinted frosting to get it as close to AC orange as he could and "decaled" it with one of his mother's cake decorating tools. Lam's older brother added the finishing touch with icing stadium lights.
The brothers even decorated the cake with a colorful edging and sprigs of grass on a snowy palette that matched the outdoors scene at the farm.
"We couldn't eat it," Lam admits. Instead, he put the tractor in an enclosed porch where it hardened. Now it's another piece in his collection of toy and real AC tractors.
