Scented Tires Smell Garden Fresh
New tires don't have to smell like rubber. Kumho Tire has introduced tires that release the aroma of lavender, with jasmine, rosemary and neroli (orange) to be available in the future.
"We're currently building three sizes and targeting them at female consumers driving sedans such as Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and the Ford Taurus," says Dan Davis, public relations manager for the Korean tire maker.
The fragrant tires are no joke performance wise. According to the company, the heat resistant oils are believed to enhance the bonding of rubber chains, maximize elasticity and reduce braking distances on wet or dry roads. They feature four wide grooves to evacuate water and a silica compound to improve all-weather performance and wet traction. High tensile steel belts and a jointless nylon cap improve ride comfort and durability, while an under tread reduces heat buildup for more consistent performance. Even the tread blocks are designed to create variable pitch lengths to minimize noise.
The fragrant blackwall tires are being sold through www.tirerack.com and are priced at $95 to $109 each, depending on size.
