Easy Way To "Vacuum" Leaves FARM HOME Miscellaneous 30-5-4
"It's an easy way to get a lot of leaves off your lawn," says James L. Bryant, Camden, Ark., who came up with what he calls a "yard vacuum".
It consists of a 10-ft. long piece of 1 1/2-in. dia. steel pipe attached to the front of a 750 Deere tractor with a couple bolts. It extends out to the right side of the tractor and has a large 10 by 12-ft. piece of canvas attached to it that drags on the ground.
The belly-mount mower on the utility tractor blows leaves and grass clippings onto the canvas as it mows. The material piles up and, when it's full, Bryant simply drives to the edge of the yard and just backs up to dump.
"On a smaller tractor you could just use a smaller piece of canvas. The weight really adds up," he notes.
