Elevator Eliminates Stair Climbing
It's not cheap but if you or a family member cannot negotiate stairways, you might want to consider a home-size elevator.
The LEV elevator can be retrofitted to existing homes or installed in new construction. Price ranges from $18,000 to $20,000, depending on installation.
It features an accordion gate; two recessed lights; wood handrail; plywood floor; car operating panel and hall stations in brushed stainless steel or brass; a battery backup emergency light and alarm; stop switch; automatic car lighting; and digital floor position indicator.
The electric-operated elevator has a capacity of 950 lbs. and can travel up to 50 ft. It rides on two no. 60 roller chains and makes five stops.
Because it operates on a chain drive system with a counterbalanced weight system, it doesn't require a separate machine room for hydraulics or a winding drum mechanism. The drive system and controller are housed inside the top of the hoistway.
