Calf Scale Fits Receiver Hitch
"Our new electronic calf scale slips into a receiver hitch on a pickup or ATV and runs off a 12-volt battery or an AC/DC converter. It lets you weigh newborn calves anywhere and is more accurate than anything else on the market," says Dan Koehn Koehn Marketing, Watertown, S. Dak.
The Digi-Scale consists of a metal cradle with built-in load cells. The calf rests comfortably in the cradle with its feet off the ground.
"It works great for not only weighing calves at birth but also for ear tagging, vaccinating, dehorning or transporting," says Koehn. "With its feet off the ground, the calf stays almost perfectly still so it's very accurate.
"The digital scale stores weight records for later analysis or transferring to a personal computer. An electronic identification option adds memory for storing electronic identification numbers, time, and date along with birth weight and is traceback capable," he notes.
The system, which includes scale indicator, cigarette lighter adapter, and calf carrier frame, sells for $1,250.
