"Life Doesn't Have A Reset Button
My son Joe is a journeyman electrician. It's his observation that electric-powered high pressure washers kill more people than any other electrically driven device.
Joe says there's no excuse for not using an inexpensive device known as a "ground fault circuit interrupter" when using pressure washers and other portable tools.
He recommends one called the "Shock Buster", which is available at most leading hardware stores and sells for under $10. I took his advice and bought one. As shown in the photo, I plug the Shock Buster into the end of the extension cord and then I plug the pressure washer into the Shock Buster. If there's any kind of problem or short, the GFCI will instantly interrupt the circuit before any damage can be done. Works the same as ground fault interrupts often installed in home circuits.
I plan to use it on any electric-powered tool when used on wet ground or in the snow. It's easy to use and doesn't have any effect on operation at all.
There's a tag line on the Shock Buster package that hit home with me: "Life doesn't have a reset button."
