Add-On Solar Room
You can cut down on heat bills and grow vegetables year around with an add-on Solar Room, according to Solar Resources, Taos, New Mexico.
Sold in kit form for do-it-yourself installation, the Solar Room is covered by a twin-skinned layer of plastic that's separated by a layer of air blown in by a 36-watt blower. The room installs on a south, south-east or southwest wall. You can place it over an existing outside door for easy access, or enter it from the outside through doors on either end of the room.
The room is 24 ft. long with 264 sq. ft. of collector surface. Even in the dead of winter, ternperatures inside on a sunny day will reach 110 to 120?. This excess heat can be circulated through the house. A 40% tax credit is allowed on the $1,280 cost of the kit, the manufacturer points out.
