Barrel Idea Helps Water Garden
Here's a simple way to gather rain water and then get it onto your garden plants, which we spotted in Organic Gardening magazine.

Get the biggest plastic garbage can you can find. Cut a hole in the lid big enough to accommodate a downspout, cover the barrel with nylon mesh to keep out leaves, and put the lid back on.

To get water out, install an outdoor faucet near the bottom of the can using rubber washers and silicone to seal it. You want the faucet up a bit from the bottom so any sediment will settle below it.

Plastic garbage can gathers rain and dispenses it through bottom faucet.
