Cardo Carrier Fits Over Tractor's Rear Axle
Ernest Marolf, Muscatine, Iowa: "I made a cargo carrier for my tractor that fits over the rear axle. It can be used to carry a tool box or bag of seed. There's a 2 by 6 at the bottom with a pair of L-shaped brackets that hold it to the axle. A platform made of two 2 by 4's rests on top. A couple of upright brackets hold a 1 by 12 up just inside the tire. I use rubber tie downs to hold cargo in place."
Lewis Leon Dick, Mt. Hope, Kan.: "I've always had a problem with straw going around the end of the cylinder bars on combine cylinders. The result is that a hole gets worn through the metal in the side of the combine and you have to patch the holes. I've seen this happen on different makes of conventional combines.
"I found a way to eliminate the problem by welding 1 by 1 1/2-in. strips of 1/4-in. thick metal to each end of the concave. These small metal risers keep straw from going past the ends of the bars."
