Old Spring Tines From A Baler Pickup Make Excellent Gate Springs
Old spring tines from a baler pickup make excellent gate springs. If one isn't enough, just use two. Slip them over the post and they'll close the gate for you. They never wear out or weaken.
We had some cattle get porcupine quills all over their noses and lips. I made a tool to hold their heads steady. All I did was weld some large ball bearings to the tips off a pair of blacksmith tongs. The ends with the balls are put in the cow's nose and clamped down. The cow really holds still when held this way.(W. Jacob- son, Box 381, Midale, Sask. Canada)
