Squirrel-Proof Hanging Bird Feeder
Looking for a way to feed birds without also feeding squirrels? Here's a simple feeder that can handle the job.
It's a 6-in. plastic sphere that hangs from a cord. The top half of the ball is held open by a light spring, giving birds access to feed inside the lower half. The only way squirrels can get to the feed is by climbing or sliding down the cord. As soon as the hungry squirrel puts any weight on the top half of the sphere, the spring collapses, letting the top half slide down and close the feeder.
Called the Squirrel's Surprise, it's available from Bird Magic by telephone or on the Internet for about $13 plus shipping and handling.
