Pto-Driven Water Pump Keeps Tractor Dry
Calvin Nordberg, South Haven, Minn., built a 2-wheeled, pto-driven pump last winter for a contractor who uses it to fill water-hauling trucks with water from ponds, creeks, and lakes.
"The pump is 20 ft. long so it can be backed down into the water without getting the tractor wet," says Nordberg.
He used a round steel plate equipped with vanes on both sides to make the impeller which is driven by a long, shielded pto shaft. The impeller draws water in from both sides through two 6-in. dia. openings. Water is discharged down a 6 by 8-in. outlet to two 4-in. dia. openings which accomodate 4-in. dia. hoses. The bearings on each side of the pump are self-aligning and made from a plastic material that isn't affected by water.
