Straw Walker Has Built-In Adjustable Sieve
"Our new straw walker can be adjusted to change the size of the openings according to crop conditions. As far as I know it's the first totally controllable straw walker on the market," says Jake Loewen, Altona, Manitoba.
The walker bolts on in place of the combine's original walker and is designed to fit any combine. The size of the openings is adjusted by using a lever that mounts under the walker. The walker can be completely closed off or opened to 80 percent.
"The problem with conventional straw walkers is that the holes in them are all the same size. As a result they let too much or too little grain through to the sieves, depending on the kernel size," says Loewen. "By being able to adjust the size of the holes you can control how much grain you throw on the walkers and keep from overloading or underloading the sieves.
"So far we've made only a few units. We expect to be in full production later this fall."
Sells for about $950 (Canadian) plus S&H.
