They Carry Parts for More Than 300 Windmills
If you're got an old windmill you'd like to get running again, you might want to check out "Big Country Windmills".
"We specialize in parts for water-pumping windmills from 30 to 40 different manufacturers, each of which produced four or five different models in up to six different sizes," says Randy Stubbs. "That means we've got parts for more than 300 windmills altogether."
"Ninety-nine point nine percent of old mills need something done to them," Stubbs says. "They've been up in the air for 25 to 60 years so they're going to be worn. But with our parts inventory, we can get most windmills going again."
The most commonly requested parts are replacement gearboxes, hubs, shafts and wind wheels (the company fabricates some of its own wheels).
The brand names include Aeromotor, Monitor, Challenge, Dempster, Fairbury, Woodmanse, Flint-Walling, Eclipse, Parish, Kenwood, Diamond, IXL, Western, Samson/Stover, Baker, David Bradley, and Fairbanks Morse, to name just a few.
Good replacement gearboxes generally sell for between $250 to $500, as do wind wheels. Hubs and shafts generally sell for between $100 and $150.
The company also sells a complete line of new and reconditioned windmills starting at $600.
