"No Frills" Tractor Made From New, Old Parts
A British company recently introduced a new range of 30 to 55 hp tractors that are based on Massey Ferguson 35 castings. What makes the tractors unusual is that they contain a mix of new and remanufactured parts that keeps the cost down.
Smallholder Tractor Co. bought the design and manufacturing rights for Massey 35 and Ferguson TE20 tractors. They install new water-cooled 3 or 4-cyl. direct inject diesel engines and add a specially fabricated front trunion that attaches to the original-style axle.
They fitted the tractor with a crankshaft-driven oil pump, new grid-like foot plates, a new seat, steering wheel, exhaust pipe, steel mudguards, 3-pt. linkage, drawbar, brake shoes, wheels, and tires. Prices range from about $10,030 for the 30 hp model to $13,175 for the 55 hp model.
