Kit Converts 3-Wheel ATV's Into 4 Wheelers
ATV owners who want the stability and handling of a 4-wheeled ATV without the expense of a completely new machine are flocking to a Southern California firm that's developed a bolt-on, do-it-yourself conversion kit that turns any 3-wheeler into a 4-wheeler.
Vice president of 3 X 4 Products, El Cajon, Calif., Susan Gertz, told FARM SHOW that the company's add-on kit can be installed by anyone using no special tools. "The kit includes fenders, disc brakes, shocks, wheels and tires, and all hardware needed to install it. Once installed, it has 9 in. of travel for an extra smooth ride and it weighs just 10 lbs. more than the conventional 3-wheeled front end."
The company makes conversion kits to fit any existing Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha or Suzuki 3-wheeler. The add-on front end can be removed later and the bike converted back to 3-wheels if desired.
"The advantage is that 4-wheelers are much more stable and easier to handle, making them safer and more fun to operate. Our kit lets anyone who already has an investment in a 3-wheeler get a virtually new machine at far less cost than trying to sell a used bike and buying a new 4-wheeler," says Gertz.
Kits sell for $695 and $795, depending on the model. Some models may require the company's optional brake lines and reservoir kit to accommodate front brakes, if not already so equipped.
