Hay Feeder Made From Box Trailer

FARM SHOW reader John King, Chicora, Penn., recently sent us a few pictures of a hay feeder his neighbor, Ken Teckman, made from a used 28 ft. box trailer to keep 5 round bales dry. It also has very little waste.

Teckman cut 15 alternating 12 in. high, 18 in. wide holes in the aluminum sides of the trailer using a sawzall. "It keeps the wind from blowing through the trailer," he says, adding that he never closes the door because it's faces the "non weather" side.

He dug the wheels into the ground up to the axles so the feeder was high enough for the cows to reach the hay. They don't go through the trailer's door because there's a section of electric fence running to it. "It looks like a funnel coming from the electric fence," he says.

Teckman put a ramp down from the door and simply drives his round bale hauler into the trailer.

"All I've got is $500 in it and that's what I paid for the trailer."

This year, Teckman wants to put an awning on each side to keep the cows dry and the hay that falls out from getting wet.
