Dry Dirt Wheel For Row Crop Planters
A new "dry dirt wheel" for row crop planters was designed with wet conditions in mind.
Jim Basset of Dawn Equipment says the idea is to mount a single spoked wheel be-hind a pair of regular row cleaning wheels but ahead of the furrow opener.
It moves some of the dry dirt that was displaced by the row cleaners back on top of the seedbed.
"It adds about a 1/2-in. thick layer of relatively dry soil that you can plant into," says Basset. "The wheel can be removed in conditions where you're concerned about trash plugging up, such as in heavy wheat stubble."
The single wheel mounts at an angle a couple inches off to the side of the furrow opener. It attaches to Dawn's "TrashWheel" mounting bracket.
Sells for $79 per row.
