New Lug Hoppers For Center Pivots
A new product designed to make lugs on Valley and other center pivot irrigation systems last longer has been introduced by Ansel Mfg., Ulysses, Kan.
Called Lug Hoppers, the units reduce wear at the high-wearing point by eliminating dragging of the trojan bar dogs over the wheel lugs.
Lug Hoppers consist of a ramp which is bolted on the tower frame and a pivoting roller device which bolts onto the trojan bar. On the drive stroke, the roller folds upward to allow the trojan bar dog contact with the back side of the wheel lug, providing forward motion to the system.
On the return stroke, the trojan bar dog lifts rather than drags over the wheel lug, as originally designed. The roller snaps back against a stop and rides up over the ramp, lifting the trojan bar and providing clearance between the trojan bar dog and the wheel lug.
Lug Hoppers, which require no welding or drilling to install, sell for $60 per tower.
