Chicken Sets Laying Record
"Superchicken", a single comb Whitelegger hen, recently earned her way into the Guinness Book Of World Records by laying an egg a day for 448 days and setting a new world egg-laying "endurance" record.
According to Dr. Harold BieIlier, poultry scientist at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Superchicken was part of an experiment using 22 and 23 hour days to see if chickens would produce more eggs. Most chickens take "time off" periodically and are considered productive if they lay eggs 80 to 85% of the time.
Superchicken had laid 371 eggs after 364 days and then continued her egg-a-day pace until day 448.
